We have assembled an abbreviated list of FAQs, and our most appropriate answers. This is not a comprehensive list of every unique situation our clients experience while on our dietary system, we attempt to provide that more completely in our essential information kit. The weight loss journey is often highly individual. That is why we recommend professional Naturopathic support. Keep in mind that Dr Simeon’s text “Pounds and Inches” discusses many issues from his deep experiential background at his time of practice, working with his clients in a clinic setting. He also recommended, in fact he insisted, on close association with an experienced professional to provide an individual protocol. Thus his text “Pounds and Inches” available for download here, is also an important resource.
The requirements of this dietary system are specific and we receive many questions from clients. The majority of your questions will be answered effectively with our qualified common sense approach and professional resources, however those individuals considering the program with chronic health concerns need work closely with one of our professional Naturopaths.
Q: Can I complete the dietary system if I am a vegetarian or vegan?
Q: Can I complete the dietary system if I am lactose intolerant?
Q: The dietary system is so low in calories, won’t I get hungry?
A: The dietary system mobilises fat from the body storage reservoirs and converts it into energy, and so naturally controls appetite. Occasionally the first few days are challenging as the system gets into full swing, but once you fully access the energy stored in fat cells, you will be very comfortable taking in fewer calories. So hunger is controlled for most people while using the diet drops.
Q: If this hormone diet is so efficient for weight loss why do pregnant women gain weight while producing so much?
A: The program has tight calorie restriction. Pregnant women do not normally engage in a 500 calorie diet.
Q: Are frozen veggies okay instead of fresh?
A: Fresh organic vegetables are our preference to help you detoxify, but frozen vegetables will suffice.
Q: Can I eat anything I want after the maintenance is complete?
A: The simple and honest answer is no. Unfortunately our modern world food supply is now saturated with fructose. Completely removing fructose from your diet will enable the normal appetite mechanisms to come into balance and reduce excessive calorie intake. So ultimately, avoid fructose and other … ose’s completely.
Q: I’m experiencing food cravings.
A: Food addictions are very real. Long term past consumption of sugar, alcohol or gluten, will possibly generate addictive cravings. They will pass within a few days.
Q: Are the dietary drops safe?
A: They are extremely safe. Women produce in excess of 1000,000 IU per day of the hormone during pregnancy. There are no reports of adverse effects even at these levels on the mother or foetus, just the opposite actually. Our product is a BioEnergetic imprint of the hormone so that there is no measurable quantities to be found in the formula. It is our observation that many of our clients experience unexpected positive outcomes including improvement in mood, relief of chronic joint pain and relief of many other chronic inflammatory symptoms.
Q: Wouldn’t I lose the same amount of weight eating a low calorie diet without the diet drops?
A: While it is plausibly true that weight loss with just a simple calorie restriction would be similar to the weight lost with the diet drops system, the following points should be noted:
- The dietary drops provides relief from hunger and clients are comfortable, with generally improved sense of wellbeing and mood.
- Fat is diminished from the most commonly desired areas of the body such as hips, thighs, buttocks and belly. Important structural fats are spared while abnormal fat areas are targeted generating improved body contours and transforming inches.
- The program is designed to maintain weight loss over the longer term and adjust addictive patterns.
Normal calorie intake is resumed immediately the low calorie phase concludes.
Q: Will I lose exactly one pound every day while on the program?
A: No, the weight loss rate is rarely a consistent trajectory. There will potentially be short stalls due to errors, lapses in consistency, lack of sleep, exercise, sunburn, or while other restorative actions occur. Most of our clients on the 23-day program average their loss over the days with overall weight loss varying between 5 and 12 kilograms. Some experience a plateau, however clients usually notice quick weight loss after a plateau.
Q: Can I complete the protocol if I am nursing a baby?
A: No, when you are nursing, your fats are needed for milk production.
Q: What makeup can I use during the protocol?
A: Use makeup that contains absolutely no fats, oils, and fatty bases.
Q: I’ve cheated and my weight loss appears to have stalled. What do I do now?
A: Cheating always has a price! Depending on how much you strayed from the discipline, it may take a few days for weight loss to return. Continue with the program until your weight loss returns.
Q: I don’t like skipping breakfast. Can I switch one of my meals to breakfast and skip a meal later in the day?
A: While it is preferable to follow the protocol as prescribed by Dr Simeons, if you would prefer to eat breakfast and skip lunch or dinner then this is okay. Don’t increase your overall caloric intake above 500 calories.
Q: Do I need to eat organic food during the program?
A: It is recommended to eat organic during the program and we accept that organic can be difficult to find and often expensive. They better support bodily functions and promote success, but they are not critical.
Q: Is it okay to exercise during the program?
A: It is acceptable to do light exercise during Phase 2 such as walking or swimming, and advisable to do slightly more strenuous exercise during Phase 3. Strenuous exercise during phase 2 adds stress to the body and can be counterproductive. You won’t lose more weight and may stall progress.
Q: What happens if I get my period during the drops phase?
A: Medically based clinics have opposing guidelines, but for most women it is comfortable to stop the drops during menstruation and continue with the Low Calorie Diet until the period finishes. Your body produces some of the hormone during menses, maintaining appetite control. Start the drops again at the end of your period and simply add the amount of days you stopped the drops onto the overall length of the program. This issue is discussed more fully in the instruction kit. Some women do note increased hunger during menses without the drops. This is a useful reason to continue the drops if that is the case. We have not observed any concerns with this adjustment in the system.
Q: When is the best time to start the dietary system?
A: The system sits snuggly in between the normal menses of women. Thus, if a woman, the best time to start is on the first day that your period finishes, thus avoiding interruptions. Men need plan to avoid heavy social periods, or times where it may be challenging to maintain the exacting control over calorie intake.
Q: If I want to do another course, how long do I have to wait to start again?
A: Whether you have completed the full 6 week or 12 week system, or any length in between, including the relevant maintenance phases, then you can start another course of the dietary drops straight away.
Q: Can I drink alcohol during this system?
A: Alcohol is a definite NO during Phase 2 of the program. Dr Simeons suggests that a small glass of red wine during Phase 3 is acceptable.
Q: I’m at day 23 of Phase 2 and am doing so well that I want to continue. Can I?
A: This is a very common occurrence. Yes, if you wish to continue your system for up to 40 days then simply maintain the VLCD and the dietary drops for the desired number of days.
Q: Can I do more than 23 days but less than 40 days on Phase 2?
A: Absolutely you can.
Q: Can I continue to go tanning while I am working my way through the system?
A: Yes definitely, that can be an advantage, but use no oil based tanning lotions or other oils.
Q: Will the dietary drops interfere with any medications I am currently taking?
A: There are no contraindications with commonly prescribed medications for chronic medical conditions.
Q: Should I stop my pharmaceutical medications while I am on the dietary system?
A: You should never stop your medications unless advised by a competent medical professional.
Q: What about birth control pills or Depo-Provera injections?
A: The dietary drops do not interact with any type of birth control pills or hormone replacement.
Q: Can I do the dietary system if I’ve had a hysterectomy?
Q: Should I stop my vitamins while taking the dietary drops?
A: Dr Simeons noted that with fat resorption, other available vitamins and minerals are recycled. However in our modern day world with its toxic challenges and soil depletion, we recommend essential support such as digestive enzymes, probiotics, B group vitamins and B12, amongst some others. These assist your digestion and metabolism during the program. Liver support will be important in some cases. Refer to the section “Recommended Support Products” for further details. Note that low quality vitamins may interfere with the rate of weight loss, especially synthetic nutrients or if they contain hidden sugars or oils.
Q: How does the system affect cholesterol levels?
A: Cholesterol levels will fluctuate. There exists a great deal of emerging evidence to question the entrenched pharmaceutical and medical position on the value of cholesterol markers in the blood, however the majority of our clients find their cholesterol levels improve according to standard ranges.
Q: Will the system help my high blood pressure?
A: Many of our clients experience decreased blood pressure readings during the program.
Q: Can I continue using my anti-depressant medications?
Q: Can I continue using my anxiety medications?
Q: If I don’t have a regular menstrual cycle will the dietary system affect that?
A: Some patients have experienced changes, even normalisation, to their menstrual cycle while on the system. These changes usually resolve after completing the program. Long-term benefits can be maintained with adherence to our lifetime strategies.
Q: Should I discontinue my thyroid medications while completing the dietary system?
A: No pharmaceutical drugs should be stopped without medical advice.
Q: I have such dry skin, what do you recommend during phase 2 of the dietary system?
A: This is common in the early stages of phase 2. If your skin becomes excessively dry, organic coconut oil may improve the condition. Be very alert to any impact on the rate of weight loss. Coconut oil is thermogenic, increasing fat burning potential, and so is usually appropriate. During the dietary system, you eliminate the intake of all oils and fats. Thus, your body will be scavenging for them everywhere, including those entering through the skin. You want your body to be burning up your fat reserves, so anything that supplies it with an alternative fuel supply must be stopped. There are numerous companies now manufacturing products that are promoted as oil free, but challenge the label and the sales representative to ensure that the product is truthfully promoted and is absolutely oil free.
